New Blog Post
Well we’re a few races into the new season now and I think we’ve had a decent start so far holding down fifth in points. The No. 9 Target team has been working very hard and we are starting to see some results. The crew has especially done a great job on the No. 9 team side, having been quickest on pit lane in three of the first four races.
We had our best result of the season to date at Barber Motorsports Park last month, where we finished third. I don’t know what it is about that track, but after finishing second four straight years in a row we took another podium spot. I’ve wanted to win that race bad after finishing second so many times…we took another spot on the podium, unfortunately it was in the wrong direction!
Then we tested at the new Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course a few weeks ago before the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis last weekend. We definitely had a fast car. We were good in the test and we had a fast car in the race, even after qualifying was held in the wet and we started sixth after a red flag cut the session short. I liked the format and it was definitely a new way to start off the month of May here in Indianapolis. There was a good crowd and I think all of the drivers really enjoy racing on the new layout.
It’s been a busy last few days here at IMS now that we’re settling into the month. The team turned around road course cars to backup cars to primary cars over three straight days. It’s one of the busiest stretches of the season for us and everyone is focused on the 500 now.
We are turning our first laps on the oval this week in preparation for qualifying and a new two-day format this year to determine the pole this Sunday. We have a lot of work to do to get into championship form, but I know the team is capable.
It’s also been fun working with Chevrolet this season, but we are still trying to get the engine a little better for our team and package. It’s a total team effort that’s required all season long.
Keep an eye out for my silver No. 9 Target car this month as we’re celebrating 25 years with Target and Chip Ganassi Racing this year.
Enjoy the racing!
