By Lap 128 Dixon moved into the third position and would pit again on Lap 176 for four tires and fuel. Dixon was running in the seventh position for the restart on Lap 186 and had worked his way up to fourth by Lap 190 and into third by Lap 195. He was forced to pit on Lap 232 for mechanical issues and would take his car back to the garage. The team made fast work of a right rear axle repair and Dixon returned to the track on Lap 270 and would finish in the 18th position.
With the results, Dixon holds the third position in the Verizon IndyCar Series point standings with 397 markers, 48 points behind the points leader Montoya.
Scott Dixon, No. 9 Target Chevrolet: “I think we had a really fast car this weekend. The Target car was good and in the top three, and I thought it was a contender all night. We had to overcome some challenges during the race but we stuck with it. We made a ton of changes and were really trying to just keep up with the track all night. I thought we were getting a break with the 2 car going out early, and then we had a weird problem with the right rear axle. The Target team did a great job getting us back out and that’s all you can ask for in that situation.”
Next up for the Verizon IndyCar Series is the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sunday August 2 at 1:30pm on CNBC.
